Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Voting Procedures.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

728 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if arrangements can be made for those who work in polling stations on a general election day, including party personnel, to vote; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1284/02]

Electoral law provides that a person employed by a returning officer, who is registered to vote in the constituency at a polling station other than the one where he or she is employed, may be authorised to vote at any other polling station in the constituency. Where the person employed by the returning officer is registered to vote in a constituency other than the one where he or she is employed, the person may apply for entry on the supplement to the postal voters list for the area where they are ordinarily resident.

It has not been considered appropriate to make similar provisions in relation to political party personnel who may be present at or in a polling station.
