Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

736 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will ensure that funding is made available to Kerry County Council to provide a sewerage scheme in Kilcummin, Killarney; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1444/02]

This scheme was twenty-fifth on the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme. It would be open to the council itself to consider advancing the scheme under the devolved rural water programme.

Ceist:

737 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make funding available to Kerry County Council for the provision of a sewerage scheme in Barraduff, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1445/02]

This scheme was not included on the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given that the scheme was not included in the list of priority schemes submitted by the council, it has not been possible to include it in the programme. It would be open to the council itself to consider advancing the scheme under the devolved rural water programme.
