Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

804 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason his Department has not approved phase II of the Carysfort drainage scheme, which was originally submitted over ten years ago; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that serious flooding occurred in this area on 11 October 2001; if he will approve this drainage scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2788/02]

Preliminary proposals for this scheme were submitted to my Department in February 1991 but have not been approved. The scheme was included as a 2004-05 objective in the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme, 2000-02, announced in July 2000. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme.
