Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Funding.

John Bruton

Ceist:

930 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason for the reduction in the provision for capital expenditure under the Garda Síochána Vote from a proposed 27 million in 2002, to 21 million in 2003 and 17 million in 2004; and the way in which this reduction in capital expenditure is to be managed without a reduction in the level of service planned. [1386/02]

The projected annual reductions referred to by the Deputy arise primarily as a result of the completion of a number of ongoing capital projects in 2002. The Deputy will appreciate that the knock on effect of this is a reduction in the capital requirement for sub sequent years. The situation will be kept under review, in the normal fashion, to take account of the requirements of the Garda Síochána over the period.
