Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

John Bruton

Ceist:

1113 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will appoint a remedial teacher to Rathkenny and Stackallen National Schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1218/02]

The schools in question currently have the services of a learning support teacher which they share with two other schools in the area. The needs of these schools will be taken fully into account in the event of additional learning support teacher posts becoming available for allocation.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

1114 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science when a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will receive payment for work as a part-time resource teacher; and the reason for the delay in the matter. [1219/02]

I understand the person referred to by the Deputy has received full payment due in respect of the performance of part-time resource teaching duties. Payment for the period June to November 2001 issued from my Department on 6 December 2001. A subsequent claim for work performed during December 2001 was received in my Department on 28 December 2001 and payment issued on 24 January 2002. Some delays have been experienced with the processing of payments in respect of part-time teachers involved in the special needs area. This is due to the unprecedented increase in the level of support being provided by my Department for children with disabilities and the consequent increase in the number of payments being processed. My Department is currently reviewing its procedures in this area with a view to expediting such payments in the future.
