Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

1147 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding school transport arrangements for a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [1405/02]

A transport grant towards private transport arrangements was sanctioned for the parents of the pupil in question at the start of the current school year as there was no suitable school transport service available. The child's parents did not avail of this grant.

Following discussions involving Bus Éireann, which operates the special school transport system on behalf of my Department, the school authorities and the parents, the pupil is now linking up with a school transport service seven miles from his home. My Department has approved a transport grant towards private transport arrangements from the pupil's home to the pick-up point. The child's parents have been notified of the revised arrangements.
