Vol. 547 No. 2

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

136 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application by a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if the appeal will be expedited and status granted to the person. [2963/02]

The person in question entered the State on 13 December 1999 and claimed asylum. His claim was refused by the refugee applications commissioner and he was informed of this decision on 12 June 2000. He did not appeal this decision. On 5 December 2000 a letter issued informing him that it was proposed to make a deportation order in respect of him and that he had 15 working days to make written representations setting out any reasons he should be allowed remain temporarily in the State, leave the State before the Minister decided whether to order his deportation or consent to the making of a deportation order. Representations were received from his legal representatives in response to this correspondence and, following a change of legal representatives during 2001, extensive further representations were recently received. I expect the case file in relation to the person in question to be submitted to me for decision very shortly.

Ceist:

137 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the case of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be reviewed. [2964/02]

The person in question entered the State on 11 March 2000 and claimed asylum on 20 March 2000. He subsequently failed to contact the refugee applications commissioner in relation to his claim and it was deemed to be abandoned on 17 November 2000. There was no contact from the person in question until 19 December 2001 when, through his legal representatives, he requested a copy of documentation on his file. A copy of this documentation was provided to his legal representatives and the matter is now between my Department and his legal representatives.
