An interdepartmental ad hoc working group was set up in May 2001, under the direction of a high level steering group, to examine and report on options for the future development of the Eastern Regional Health Authority lands at Grangegorman in Dublin city. The group is chaired by the Department of the Taoiseach. Its terms of reference include examining how the Grangegorman site can be best developed in meeting education and social service needs; the development of facilities for the Dublin Institute of Technology on site; the provision of health facilities for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the overall development of the site, including the financing of such a development.
Membership of the working group includes representatives of the Departments of the Taoiseach, Finance, Education and Science, Environment and Local Government, Public Enterprise, Health and Children, the Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin City Council and the ERHA. The group has completed its work and it is expected that its report will be submitted to Government shortly. My Department will continue to work closely with other relevant Departments and agencies to ensure that the Government's objectives to provide high quality health and education services on the site are met.
