Vol. 547 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

110 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the details of the passenger charter operated by Iarnród Éireann in respect of punctuality for all inter city train routes; if she will provide copies of the results on average for each quarter for 2001; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3936/02]

Iarnród Éireann's customer charter sets out performance standards in relation to reliability and time keeping and makes a commitment that 99% of all scheduled intercity trains will run as planned. In the charter, Iarnród Éireann also gives an undertaking that its services will be monitored independently twice a year and that the findings published. The first of these independent monitors has taken place covering the first six months of 2001 and the results were published recently on their website at http.//www.irishrail.ie. Iarnród Éireann has also produced a brochure setting out the main findings which I will arrange to have sent to the Deputy. The observation ratings of the research showed that 85% of intercity trains were punctual, that is within ten minutes. Punctuality figures for each route have also been published and are included in the brochure which I will be sending to the Deputy.
