Vol. 547 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

130 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance if his Department operates term time; the number of persons who applied for this in 2000, 2001 and 2002; the number of persons who were accepted and availed themselves of the scheme; if persons were refused; if so, the reason therefor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3892/02]

A pilot scheme of term time working has been in operation in my Department since June 2000. The following schedule gives an outline of the applications for the years 2000, 2001 and 2002.

In general my Department has led the way in introducing family friendly policies such as term time in the Civil Service. Every effort is made to accommodate staff in this regard as is evident from the numbers who applied for and availed of this scheme over the last two years and are availing of it again this year. Staff in my Department can also avail of a number of other family friendly measures including flexitime, parental leave, career breaks and worksharing.
