I strongly support the idea that the governance of the Office of the Houses of the Oireachtas should pass to a commission composed of parliamentarians and the Clerk of the Dáil, who will also act as chief executive, and the transfer to it of powers currently exercised by the Minister for Finance. It is my intention to have the Bill, which is being prepared in my Department and on which considerable consultation has taken place with Members and officers of both Houses, published before Easter.
