My Department is not in receipt of any application for additional accommodation at Colaiste Ciaran, Leixlip, County Kildare. Enrolments at this school have been in gradual decline for the past few years. My Department is satisfied that there is adequate provision to meet current and anticipated demand at post-primary level in Leixlip.
479 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the degree to which the facilities at Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare are adequate to meet requirements; his intentions to provide extra facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5890/02]
An extension has recently been completed at Confey Community College, where the current enrolment is 678. The new extension will bring the total capacity of the school to 800 pupils. My Department is satisfied that the new extension will provide adequate accommodation to meet current demand.
480 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he expects the provision of permanent facilities at Coláiste Cois Life, County Dublin; when work is likely to start on the project; if his attention has been drawn to the need to proceed with the project as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The allocation for post-primary buildings in 2002 is €182.31 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates the Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.
Since the Government came into office, there has been a great increase in the level of activity in the area of primary school building. This has resulted in a substantial increase in the number of major building projects in construction, which has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.
As part of the Government's programme a new school is being provided for Coláiste Cois Life, Lucan, County Dublin. This project is currently at stage three in architectural planning. Under the expanded building programme it will continue to the next stage as soon as possible.
481 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress regarding the provision of new and extra facilities in respect of Kill Primary School, Kill, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5892/02]
The property management section of the Office of Public Works is acting on behalf of my Department in relation to site acquisitions generally and is currently exploring the possibility of acquiring a site for Kill national school, County Kildare. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
482 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of the extra facilities required at Maynooth post-primary school, Maynooth, County Kildare; the remaining developmental stages before work commences on the project; the full extent of the proposed facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The stage three (developed sketch scheme) has being examined within my Department's post primary building unit. A number of queries were raised and were brought to the attention of the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC for evaluation and a response from his design team. A response has been received and is currently being examined within my Department's post-primary building unit.
Subject to the stage 3 submission being in order, the question of authorising the project to stage 4, Detailed Design, will be considered.

It is intended that construction will commence as soon as possible on the North Kildare School Project and arrangements are being made to that effect.

489 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in respect of the promised extra facilities at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, County Kildare; the degree to which this project has progressed through various developmental stages in the past 12 months; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The extension project at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, County Kildare, which has brought the capacity of the school to 850 pupils, has been completed. Current enrolment at the school is 720 pupils.
My Department is not aware of any request for further additional accommodation.
My Department is satisfied that there is adequate provision at post-primary level to meet current and anticipated demand in Clane.
490 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of extra facilities and places at St. Mary's College, Naas, County Kildare; the extent to which the full requirement is being met in the course of ongoing renovations; the degree to which further facilities are or will be required; when it is expected that the full requirement will be met; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The extension and refurbishment project at St. Mary's College, Naas, County Kildare, has been completed. The extension of 1372 square metres is comprised of a number of general and specialist classrooms and ancillary accommodation. Overall post-primary school provision in the Naas area is currently under review in light of additional housing developments in the area.
491 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress regarding the provision of the extra facilities required at St. Patrick's post-primary school, Naas, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5902/02]
A proposal submitted by the chief executive officer of County Kildare VEC to relocate the St. Patrick's Community College to a new site, including the possible sale of the existing school is currently being considered by my Department's post-primary building and administration units.
All possible options are being considered by my Department. However, in order to progress this matter further a number of issues must be resolved.
A letter was issued to the chief executive officer in relation to these issues.
A response has now been received within my Department's post-primary building unit which is currently being considered.
