Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

198 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance his proposals for improvement of existing Garda stations in County Kildare; his plans for new Garda stations; the position regarding early conclusion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6882/02]

The Office of Public Works is currently awaiting the compilation of a new building priority list from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. The Office of Public Works is currently dealing with the following cases in County Kildare.

Athy Garda station – proposed works include a new conference room, parade room, storage room and female toilet facilities. Part XIII Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1994 documentation has been completed for this project, now to be submitted to the local authority for its observations. Tender documents are being processed.

Carbury Garda station – request for new site received in February 2000. Following evaluation of various potential sites an advertisement was placed in the local and national press in December 2000 to test the market fully. Architect's and valuer's assessments of the selected site were carried out and a decision to purchase the site at Derrinturn was made in May 2001. Details forwarded to the Chief State Solicitor's office in August 2001 to complete conveyancing. Deposit and remainder figure paid in December 2001. Currently with CSSO for execution.
Clane Garda station – proposed works include for demolition of existing garage, provision of a new garage and provision of a seized car compound area. Part XIII Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1994 documentation being processed to be submitted to the local authority for its observations.
Leixlip Garda station – a number of difficulties have arisen in relation to securing church site i.e. other interested party and vehicular access. All other possibilities are being actively pursued.
Maynooth Garda station – request for new station received in November 2001. Architect's and valuer's assessments of sites sourced are not favourable. Other site to be assessed. Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform to advise on priority of this case.
Rathangan Garda station – site purchased in 1993.
