Ceist:110 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of discretionary medical cards issued by each health board in 1990, 2000, 2001 and to date in 2002. [7350/02]

Statistics on the number of so called "discretionary medical cards" issued by health boards are not routinely collected by my Department. Health boards have been asked that arrangements be made to collect these data.
Since responsibility for the provision of service to medical card holders rests with the chief executive officer of the relevant board, this question has been referred to them and they have been asked to reply directly to the Deputy.
