Michael Ring
Ceist:137 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views on the implementation of tachograph legislation when there are insufficient lay-bys available for drivers to abide by the laws. [7329/02]
Vol. 550 No. 1
137 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his views on the implementation of tachograph legislation when there are insufficient lay-bys available for drivers to abide by the laws. [7329/02]
138 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of lay-bys between county Mayo and Dublin which would enable lorry drivers to abide by tachograph regulations; and the number of lay-bys nationwide. [7330/02]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 137 and 138 together.
I am generally satisfied that the availability of lay-bys together with commercial truck-stops and similar sites on the public road system provides adequate stopping facilities for drivers of heavy goods vehicles. The Minister for Public Enterprise has responsibility for matters related to tachograph legislation.
