Vol. 550 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

33 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding new sewerage schemes for Timoleague and Courtmacsherry, County Cork; and if funding will be provided for both schemes in the 2002 programme. [6906/02]

The Timoleague sewerage scheme was included as a post-2006 objective in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Cork County Council for its western division in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The Courtmacsherry scheme was not among the schemes listed by the council. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given this position regarding the prioritisation of both schemes, the level of competing demand and the limited funding available, it has not been possible to include either scheme in the programme.
