Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

642 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason his Department has failed to correspond since November, 1999 with a school (details supplied) in County Cork, who are still awaiting a greenfield site, as the school must leave their present accommodation in 2002 and are having enormous difficulty in locating another suitable premises; the action his Department is taking to identify a greenfield site; the reason it has taken so long; the current position in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8056/02]

My Department has received an application from the authorities of the school referred to by the Deputy for a new school building on a greenfield site. Work is also proceeding on the acquisition of sites for a further 60 new primary schools.

My Department will give detailed consideration to the application for a new school building from the school referred to by the Deputy, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
