Vol. 550 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Expenditure.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

369 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Health and Children the way in which the Government's commitments in the health strategy, Quality and Fairness - A Health System for You - are reflected in the current and capital expenditure projections 2002-04, set out in the budget documentation published on 10 December 2001. [8588/02]

Funding for 2002 provided as part of the budget package published on 10 December 2001 and in respect of the health strategy, Quality and Fairness – A Health System for You, amounted to €209 million Revenue and €40 million in capital, including new initiatives and further development of certain existing services which are described in the strategy. In addition to the budget package there is also available for 2002 a further €161 million for the items described as "development of existing services" in the strategy. This latter funding was provided for in the Abridged Estimates Volume 2002 published last November.

In the context of the 2002 package, funding projections determined last December by the Minister for Finance for 2003 and 2004 are set at €42 million and €41 million capital and €249 million and €140 million revenue respectively, with regard to the services described in the strategy. As is normal practice, my Department will be entering into detailed discussions with the Department of Finance to agree funding requirements for 2003, including funding for strategy-specific issues.
