385 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the appointment of an nephrologist to the dialysis unit at Merlin Park Hospital, County Galway, to replace the recently retired nephrologist; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8770/02]

The provision of services at Merlin Park Regional Hospital, Galway, including the appointment of medical staff, is the responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this post and reply to the Deputy directly.
