Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - War Fatalities.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

175 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Defence if his Department will consider the commissioning of a definitive list of all those who died during the War of Independence and the Civil War; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8938/02]

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, a considerable amount of material relevant to this subject exists in various sources, including publications such as The Irish Republic by Dorothy McArdle, Who's Who in the Irish War of Independence and Civil War, 1916 to 1923 by Padraic O'Farrell and Sinn Féin Rebellion Handbook, Easter 1916 published by The Irish Times, etc. The commissioning of a work such as that suggested by the Deputy would involve a considerable amount of detailed research and is one that might commend itself to one of our academic institutions.
