Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

360 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress which has been made by his Department to provide a sewerage scheme in an area (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10145/02]

This scheme has been approved for funding under the rural towns and villages initiative. My Department is awaiting a report from Kilkenny County Council on the applicability of design-build-operate procurement to the treatment works.

Ceist:

361 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make the necessary funding available to Kilkenny County Council to allow a sewerage scheme pro ceed in an area (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10146/02]

The Freshford sewerage scheme was fourth on the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Kilkenny County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in framing the water services investment programme 2000-02, announced in July 2000. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demands, and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme.
