The reference date for census 2002 is Sunday 28 April. Recruitment of the temporary field staff who will conduct the enumeration is now at an advanced stage. The supervisory field force grades, consisting of five census liaison officers, 35 regional supervisors and 350 field supervisors, are already in place and fully trained. Successful candidates for the 4,000 enumerator positions are being contacted with a view to commencing the field operation on 27 March, following appropriate training. A public awareness campaign, incorporating television, radio, press and outdoor media, will begin on the same day.
