Vol. 551 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

244 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason approval has not been granted for the construction of a new building for Drumphea national school, Carlow; and if, in view of the need for this project to commence, he will issue approval immediately. [10798/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

A project to provide a new building for Drumphea national school is included as part of the Government's programme and is currently in architectural planning. The project will continue to the invitation of tenders, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

245 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science when construction will commence on the extension to a national school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [10799/02]

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

247 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will respond to the Marino School in Bray, County Wicklow, which is awaiting sanction for alterations and an extension; and if, in view of the fact that this school first made an application ten years ago, his Department will now give the necessary approvals for this work to proceed. Ceist:

248 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the provision his Department is making for Gaelscoil Bhaile Manna, Dublin 9 which has been in temporary accommodation since 1996; if, in view of the fact that Dublin City Council has made a site available in the new Ballymun town, his Department will now give the necessary approvals for a new school to proceed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10839/02]

My Department's building unit has no record of having received an application for grant aid for improved accommodation for Gaelscoil Bhaile Mhanna, Dublin 9. However, I have arranged for an official from my Department to contact the school authorities in relation to this matter.
