Vol. 551 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

254 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 211 of 14 February 2002, he is now in a position to provide a list of the major projects in architectural planning for primary and post primary schools in County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10845/02]

I am finalising for Government the details and shape of the programme as it is likely to develop through the year. It is my intention to make available to Deputies a list of school building projects currently in construction as well as major building projects in architectural planning as soon as possible, taking this year's Estimates, the budget allocation and PPPs into account. I will also announce details of projects that are ready to go to tender and others for which tenders have been received and where construction will commence in the coming months.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

255 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application from Kilmurray national school, Kilmurray, County Clare, for funding to extend the school. [10846/02]

The allocation for primary buildings in 2002 is €153.6 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving accommodation in primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of activity in the primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.

A proposed building project for Kilmurray national school, Ennis, County Clare will proceed to architectural planning and to the preparation of tender documents, as soon as possible, under the Government's expanded building programme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

256 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the extent of the discussions between his Department and the authorities at Scoil Clochar Naofa, Kilcock, County Kildare in regard to the provision of the extra facilities required there; the progress in regard to such discussions; the likelihood of a satisfactory conclusion in the near future; the remaining developmental stages to be gone through prior to implementation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

257 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the action his Department has taken to purchase a greenfield site for a school (details supplied); if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the schools have identified a suitable site; if his attention has further been drawn to the proposal of the owner of this site to build a school and lease it to the Department; his views on this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10865/02]

My Department has received an application from the authorities of the school in question for a new school building on a greenfield site. My Department will give detailed consideration to this application, as soon as possible, under the expanded building programme. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
