214 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science when he expects his Department to submit its recommendation concerning the future of St. Joseph's Secondary School, Newtownforbes, County Longford; and if a new management structure will be in place in time to allow enrolment for the next academic year to proceed. Officials of my Department met the group seeking to retain a post-primary school in Newtownforbes as recently as Friday, 22 March 2002 to address the matter raised by the Deputy.
The issues raised at that meeting are now being examined by my Department to determine the most appropriate way of meeting post-primary education needs in the Longford-Newtownforbes catchment area in the medium and long-term. As soon as that examination has been completed, recommendations will be submitted to me for consideration.
