Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

394 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science when a decision will be made in relation to the future of St. Brigid's school, Goresbridge, County Kilkenny; if this school will be considered for further development under the auspices of the VEC; when the temporary buildings will be on site to deal with the current problems; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13762/02]

All the issues relating to the future of St. Brigid's school, Goresbridge, County Kilkenny, are currently under examination. Among the factors being considered are the current and projected student numbers in Goresbridge, the capital investment that would be required and the location and proximity of alternative post-primary school provision in the general area. Careful consideration is being given to all aspects of the matter and the school authorities will be advised of the position as soon as a decision has been taken.

In relation to the provision of temporary buildings at the school, the position is that the consultant architect will apply to the local authority for planning permission for the development in the near future. Assuming there are no difficulties with the granting of planning permission, tenders will be invited shortly thereafter from suitably qualified contractors.
