Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Planning Appeals.

John Bruton

Ceist:

630 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the way in which he intends to review procedures for dealing with insubstantial planning appeals; and his plans for legislation for this purpose. [13494/02]

As part of a multi-strand approach to addressing housing needs, An Agreed Programme for Government includes a commitment to review procedures for dealing with insubstantial planning appeals. This review will be carried out by my Department in consultation with, inter alia, An Bord Pleanála. It will have regard to the impact of the new arrangements, under the Planning and Development Act, 2000, for planning applications and appeals which came into effect on 11 March 2002 and which are designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the planning system. All options, including possible legislative change, will be examined.
