Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Free Travel Scheme.

John Bruton

Ceist:

681 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the way in which it is intended to put in place the all Ireland free travel scheme for pensioners. [13446/02]

Under An Agreed Programme for Government it is proposed to put in place an all-Ireland free travel scheme for pensioners resident in all parts of the island. At present there are limited concessions available in the form of free cross-Border travel for eligible pensioners.

The planning, design and implementation of the proposed scheme will require detailed discussions and agreements with relevant authorities and transport providers. Until such time as these discussions have taken place it will not be possible to say how the scheme will be implemented.
