Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Personal Injuries Assessment Board.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

137 Mr. Sherlock asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, in regard to the commitment given in An Agreed Programme for Government, the proposals to establish guidelines on damages for particular injuries; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13654/02]

The Agreed Programme for Government contains a commitment to establish a Personal Injuries Assessment Board, PIAB.

The remit of the PIAB will be to offer assessments of quantum, and that assessments will be based on court precedent. Among the concrete issues arising for action would therefore be, for example, the establishment of a database based on court awards to date.
