Ceist:27 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the plans outlined in the programme for Government for the development of agriculture and food; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14054/02]

The programme for Government, which was published on 4 June 2002, sets out the detailed actions designed to provide renewed impetus to the development of agriculture and food and to build on progress achieved in the last five years.
The overall objective is the development of an agri-food sector which offers farm families attractive and sustainable livelihood options, to compete on world-wide markets, values our rural environment and is focused on meeting consumer demands, particularly for the highest standards of food safety.
The plans in the programme are consistent with the approach set out in the Agri-Food 2010 Action Plan, published in August 2000.
