Vol. 553 No. 6

Written Answers. - Government Expenditure.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

262 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the total estimated cost of the change of name of her Department from the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, taking a number of criteria (details supplied) into account. [14919/02]

Arrangements for the transfer to the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs of responsibility for community development and associated activities are currently being finalised, including arrangements for the transfer of appropriate staff. The other steps necessary to give effect to the change of name of the Department will be taken on a progressive basis. Stationery and information booklets, payment books and passes issued to customers will be replaced by stocks bearing the new name as existing stocks expire. Other aspects of the change of name – such as change of signage – will be implemented as opportunities arise.

It is not anticipated that the name change will result in additional costs in the Department's computer systems. It is not possible at this early stage to give a precise estimate of the costs which will ultimately be involved but the necessary changes will be made in such a way as to minimise those costs.
