86 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the amount of the third level maintenance grant for 2002; the way in which this com pares with the basic social welfare payment; his plans to increase the grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14752/02]
My Department operates a number of schemes, administered by the local authorities and vocational education committees, which provide for means tested higher education grants in order to assist students to attend full-time third level education.
The issues raised by the Deputy are being addressed in the context of the finalisation of the student support schemes for the next academic year. My Department will issue the schemes in the near future.
