124 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if mushrooms imported from Poland are being distributed in the UK as Irish mushrooms; if investigations have been made into the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14860/02]
I have seen reports in the newspapers that mushrooms imported from Poland are being distributed in the UK as Irish mushrooms. My Department has investigated the matter and to-date no concrete evidence has been found to substantiate these reports. However, I will keep the matter under review. In this regard it should be pointed out that labelling which misleads the consumer contravenes EU Directive 2000/13/EC.
