I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ó Caoláin – the need to raise with the British Government the recent activities of its military and police forces in the Six Counties; (2) Deputy Broughan – the urgent need to preserve the social economy by legislating support for the community employment programme; (3) Deputy Ferris – the disquiet among the fishing community at the allocation of €70 million worth of tonnage plus kilowatts to one vessel; (4) Deputy Crowe – the need to address the renewed and growing crisis in communities, especially in Dublin, with the increased supply of heroin on the streets; (5) Deputy M. Higgins – the imminent closure of the Galway Family Guidance Institute; (6) Deputy Gormley – the failure of the Government to allocate funding for proper flood defences in Sandymount and Ringsend; (7) Deputy Crawford – the need to retain accident and emergency services in Monaghan General Hospital for the Border area; (8) Deputy Deenihan – the Jeanie Johnston sailing ship, Tralee, County Kerry; and (9) Deputy Naughten – the decision of the board of the Railway Procurement Agency to seek the appointment of a banker as the chief executive officer of the agency.
The matters raised by Deputies Broughan, Deenihan, Crawford and Naughten have been selected for discussion.
