Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

1478 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, in relation to the 1999 urban renewal scheme, his attention has been drawn to the lengthy delay associated with this scheme which includes waiting up to four to six weeks for an inspector to call assessing a certificate of compliance; and if, in view of the physical hardship this causes many young first-time buyers, he will introduce measures to fast track this scheme. [15923/02]

Under the urban renewal scheme, 1999, a certificate of compliance is required where a newly constructed, refurbished or converted property is purchased from a builder. The certification is sought on completion of the building. A departmental inspector carries out an inspection and prepares a report. Where everything is in order, a certificate of compliance then issues. While I am generally satisfied that undue delays are not occurring in completing these procedures, my Department will, of course, continue to monitor the level of service for this scheme.
