293 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total budget available in each year under the national development plan for the capital investment scheme for the marketing and processing of certain agricultural products; the successful applications to date under the scheme, the level of funding available for each project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The capital investment scheme operated by my Department for the marketing and processing of certain agricultural products is one of the initiatives for the food industry in the national development plan, NDP. The measure assists capital projects in the eggs, livestock, horticulture, grain and potato sectors which do not fall within the remit of the development agencies or are not covered by my Department's on-farm schemes. The financial profile drawn up under the NDP for the scheme provides for an indicative amount of €25 million broken down as follows:

The scheme is not operated on an ongoing "first come first served basis" but through a series of competitive tranches. Under the first tranche completed earlier this year a total of €13.7 million has been awarded in respect of 48 projects across the various sectors. This represents the funding allocated for the scheme up to and including 2003 and a substantial part of 2004. It is anticipated that a further tranche will be announced towards the end of 2003.

Grant aid of 40% of approved eligible costs was awarded in respect of successful applications. Details of awards made under the scheme follow.
