Mary Upton

Ceist:

493 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the individual non-governmental organisations funded or grant-aided under the various schemes run by his Department; the amount provided; and the purpose for which it was provided in the last full year for which information is available. [16719/02]

Particulars of non-governmental organisations which were funded or grant-aided under the Vote for Foreign Affairs – Vote 38 – are in Annex A.

Under the Vote for International Co-operation – Vote 39 – Ireland Aid funds a large number of non-governmental organisations – NGOs – both in Ireland and throughout the developing world for a variety of development activities. These activities are spread across a wide range of sectors, with particular emphasis on the provision of basic needs in relation to health, education, water, sanitation and community development. The full list of these grants, the NGOs involved and the geographic location of their activities are outlined in the Ireland Aid annual reports, copies of which are available in the Library. The report for the year 2001 is expected to be published in the coming weeks.
