Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Television Licence Fee.

Joe Costello

Ceist:

117 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the steps being taken to ensure the more efficient collection of television licence fees, having regard to reports suggesting that up to 200,000 homes do not have a licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17039/02]

My Department is working with both An Post and RTE to develop and implement a range of measures to maximise the level of television licence fees collected. My Department is considering possible amendments to the television licence fee regulations with a view to improving the efficiency of the collection system and to reducing the level of evasion. An Post has put additional resources into pursuing households and businesses that are unlicensed and RTE has run a number of advertising campaigns.
