Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Air Services.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

1300 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport following the incident off the south west coast in November 2001, the action he intends to take to improve the standard of air traffic control; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16800/02]

The Deputy will note that my Department's air accident investigation unit carried out a comprehensive investigation of and report on this serious incident on 10 November 2001 and made six safety recommendations. All of these recommendations are intended to improve existing procedures and thus prevent a similar occurrence in the future. The recommendations are specifically addressed to the air traffic services of both Ireland and the United Kingdom and the appropriate oversight authority in each jurisdiction.

The air accident investigation unit of my Department monitors the responses to its recommendations and I am pleased to inform the Deputy that all six recommendations have been accepted and are being implemented by the relevant operators and authorities.
