Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

1439 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the necessary funding will be provided to enable Kerry County Council to proceed with stage I phase II of the Smearla Dam site investigation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15688/02]

Ceist:

1452 Mr. Dennihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will provide the necessary funding for Stage 1, Phase II of the Smearla Dam Site Investigation to go to tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15502/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1439 and 1452 together.

This scheme was tenth on the list of 24 water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2002-2004, published in April 2002. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.
