Vol. 555 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

212 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if all domestic sewerage treatment systems being installed here must be certified where planning has been granted for certified products; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17587/02]

Planning authorities, where they consider it necessary, may attach a condition to a planning permission requiring the provision of a packaged treatment plant for the disposal of sewage from domestic dwellings. Such treatment systems might typically be required to be certified to meet standards set by the National Standards Authority of Ireland-Irish Agrément Board. A variety of propriety systems should be capable of meeting such a condition.

Action to ensure compliance with such conditions would be a matter for the planning authority concerned.
