Bernard Allen

Ceist:

28 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his plans to end the practice of Oireachtas Members also being members of local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17311/02]

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

34 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he intends to introduce legislation to end the dual mandate whereby many Members of Dáil Eireann are also members of local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17341/02]

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

342 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his plans to abolish the dual mandate where Members of the Oireachtas can seek election to a local authority or the reverse. [17748/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 28, 34 and 342 together.

The question of disqualification from local authority membership was reviewed by the Oireachtas last year and the resulting provisions are set out in section 13 of the Local Government Act, 2001. Any further amendment of these provisions will be a matter for consideration in the context of any future changes to the Government's legislation programme.
