Vol. 555 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Broughan.

In accordance with the terms of Standing Order 31, I give notice of my intention on the Order of Business to seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention, namely, the need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to reject the request to her, as the holder of 51% of shares in IFI, from the board to liquidate the company in light of the serious consequences of the loss of more than 600 jobs and the implications for Irish agriculture; and to enter into discussions with the board on the measures necessary to keep the company in operation with the preservation of the maximum possible number of jobs. In view of the importance of the issue, I hope the Ceann Comhairle can agree to the request.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in accordance with Standing Order 31.

The Ceann Comhairle is obviously not losing his job.
