Vol. 556 No. 2

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Paudge Connolly and I call on him to state the matter.

I seek to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the current situation pertaining in the North-Eastern Health Board region in relation to Monaghan General Hospital. We have a very severe crisis in the health service—

It is not appropriate to go beyond the motion.

—and in particular in the North-Eastern Health Board region where we have five acute hospitals.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

In three of those hospitals, including Dundalk Hospital where the Minister for Communications, the Marine and Natural Resources has complained about services—

I call the Tánaiste on the Order of Business.

We also have a serious problem in Navan.

It is a long-standing precedent in this House that the Deputy does not go beyond the motion.

Waiting lists are growing in the North-Eastern Health Board region.

I ask Deputy Connolly to resume his seat.
