Vol. 556 No. 2

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

100 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health and Children when a health centre and a mental health day care centre will be provided at Tullow, County Carlow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19623/02]

The provision of health centres to meet the needs of local communities and the maintenance and upgrading of such centres within its functional area is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of Tullow Health Centre this responsibility rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. I have been in contact with that board and it has confirmed to me that planning for the combined Tullow health centre and mental health day care centre is complete. Tenders have been received and are currently being examined by my Department. The outcome of these considerations will be forwarded to the South Eastern Health Board in the near future.
