Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Tom Hayes

Ceist:

468 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the amount of money still unclaimed and the amount which has already been paid to Knockavilla GAA club under the sports capital programme. [19952/02]

A grant of €25,395 was provisionally allocated to Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams GAA club under the 2000 sports capital programme administered by my Department.

On the basis of documentation received an amount of €8,667 was paid to the club in October 2001. The payment of the outstanding balance of €16,728 is dependent on my Department receiving and approving required documentation from the club.

This documentation is still outstanding and should it not be supplied by the club by the end of this month, my Department will have to consider withdrawal of the balance of the grant, which is still outstanding.

Ceist:

469 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism his plans to assist Duneske Leisure Group, Cahir, County Tipperary, in its effort to provide necessary services for the youth of the area. [19953/02]

Duneske Leisure Group submitted an application to my Department for funding under the national lottery-funded sports capital programme for 2002. Under this programme, funding is allocated to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level towards the provision of sport and recreational facilities. The programme is advertised on an annual basis and provisional grant allocations for 2002 were announced on 29 March last. Unfortunately, the Duneske application was deemed ineligible on the grounds that its project did not have the minimum level of local funding required under the terms and conditions of the programme.

All funding under the 2002 programme has been allocated. It will be open to the Duneske group to apply for funding under the 2003 sports capital programme when it is advertised. Guidelines, terms and conditions for the programme will be issued with the application forms. I recently met representatives of this group and I explained the position to them.
