Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Play Policy.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

486 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children when a national play recreation policy will be introduced under the national children's strategy. [19780/02]

The National Children's Office is currently preparing a play policy addressing the play needs of children under 12. It is hoped to submit the policy to Government within three months. An extensive consultation process is being undertaken with a view to obtaining an input into the process from a wide range of stakeholders. As part of the consultation process, the National Children's Office will hold a consultation forum on 12 November next. The national play policy will be followed by a policy on the recreation needs of older children between the ages of 12 and 18. A research study on the recreation needs of older children, which will be used to inform the policy, is out to tender at present. It is intended that the national recreation policy will be completed in 2003.
