Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Autism Services.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

494 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide the finance to the Western Health Board for the setting up of a high support unit to cater for mild learning disorders and challenging behaviour; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19866/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services to persons with an intellectual disability and those with autism in the Galway region rests with the Western Health Board. This would include decisions in relation to new developments or the enhancement of existing services. The Deputy will appreciate that I cannot at this stage comment on specific funding for any element of the health services in 2003 prior to the conclusion of the annual Estimates and budgetary discussions. However, the Government is committed to the continued expansion of these services as outlined in the programme for Government.
