Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

John Cregan

Ceist:

496 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Health and Children when the adoption contract register legislation will be introduced; and the way in which a person (details supplied) who has been trying to trace their brother can be facilitated. [19868/02]

The Adoption Information, Post Adoption Contact and Associated Issues Bill, of which the voluntary contact register is part, is currently with the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel for drafting.

With regard to the tracing by the person concerned of her brother, the adoption agency would have the records relating to the time the adoption took place. Obviously, these records would not give the whereabouts of the person's brother. However, in the first instance, contact should be made with the agency concerned.
