Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Firearms Certificates.

Seamus Healy

Ceist:

615 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding an application for a gun licence by a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19920/02]

In accordance with the provisions of the Firearms Acts, 1925 to 2000, the power to grant or refuse to grant a firearm certificate to any person resident in the State is vested in the local superintendent of the Garda district where the person resides. I have no statutory function in the matter. However, the Garda authorities have informed me that the application referred to by the Deputy is being processed and a decision will be made shortly. The applicant will of course be informed of the decision.
